ShipCert holds your career record, which is sensitive. The short version: we store what you enter so we can show it back to you, we do not sell it, and you can have it deleted.
What we collect
- Account — your email address, and your name if you give it. If you sign in with Google we receive your email and display name, nothing else.
- Sea service — the entries you record: vessels, dates, capacity served, day counts, voyage details, and who signed for them.
- Certificates — the certificates you record, their dates, and any photo you upload of them.
- Operational logs — ordinary server logs such as IP address and request times, kept for security and debugging.
We do not ask for your Social Insurance Number, date of birth, or banking details, and you should not put them in free-text fields.
Where it lives
Data is stored with Supabase (database, authentication and file storage) and served by an application running on Fly.io. Both are third-party providers acting on our behalf, and both may store data outside Canada. Certificate photos are kept in private storage that is readable only through your own signed-in session.
What we do with it
We use it to run the product: to show your record back to you, to calculate progress toward a certificate, and to email you before a certificate expires if you ask us to. We do not sell it, rent it, or use it for advertising.
Who can see it
Your record is yours. Other ShipCert users cannot see it. Our staff do not read it routinely and access it only where necessary to fix a fault or where the law requires it.
Your choices
- Export — ask and we will send you your data in a machine-readable format.
- Correction — you can edit or delete any entry yourself at any time.
- Deletion — ask us to close your account and we will delete your data, except anything we must retain by law.
Write to hello@shipcert.io for any of these.
Cookies
This marketing site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. The application itself stores a session token in your browser so you stay signed in; that is required for it to work.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that materially affects you, we will tell you before the change takes effect.
